| Music royalty collection/distribution associations, APRA and AMCOS have united to donate $25,000 to the Slim Dusty Foundation. |
APRA, the Australian Performing Right Association and AMCOS, the Australasian Mechanical Copyright Owners’ Society, collect copyright royalties on behalf of music creators and publishers from around the world. |
| Acting on behalf of some two million composers, writers and publishers worldwide, they have over 42,000 members in Australia and New Zealand alone. |
Formed in 1926, APRA combined with AMCOS in 1997 to strengthen their ability to collect and distribute the royalties that are the lifeblood of ongoing composer and publisher revenue. |
APRA and AMCOS support for the aims of the Slim Dusty Foundation is a natural one, given the way the Foundation itself is an active and major supporter of the music industry. |
| Brett Cottle, speaking on behalf of APRA/AMCOS, underlined the continuing importance of Slim Dusty’s influence: ‘Slim owns a unique position in Australia’s cultural and musical heritage. |
‘It is only fitting that his legacy be honoured through such a worthy initiative as the Foundation, providing both a centre of historical significance and an investment in Australia’s emerging musical artists.
‘APRA/AMMCOS is proud to be a Foundation Donor.’ |

In thanking APRA/AMCOS for their generous support, Joy McKean OAM, Deputy Chair of the Slim Dusty Foundation, said ‘It is wonderful to see the support from all Slim’s colleagues in the music industry. |
‘This donation from The Australian Performing Right Association and the Australasian Mechanical Copyright Owners’ Society is greatly appreciated as further proof of the industry’s great regard for Slim Dusty and what he stood for.’
‘Hopefully, the Slim Dusty Centre will provide an insight into this Australia of ours and will be a centre of pride to the Macleay Valley and a living example of everything that makes this nation unique to the world. A huge wish, but one that I believe we can accomplish.’ |

Board member and singer/songwriter, Anne Kirkpatrick observed, "It's great that APRA goes to bat for us, ensuring a fair deal for songwriters/performers and also has the vision to encourage new and emerging talent. So, it's wonderful news that APRA's vision has extended to support us in the wider sense of getting behind the Slim Dusty Foundation project and so ensuring support for generations of songwriters/performers to come." |
| The Centre will provide a uniquely Australian experience in an environment ranking in innovation, excellence and relevance as one of the most significant of its type in the world. |
| It has already met with tremendous support from Federal and State Governments and many other organisations and individuals throughout the nation who recognise the outstanding contribution Slim made to Australia. |
The Slim Dusty Foundation is seeking further community support to achieve its goal and raise the substantial funds needed to plan and construct the Centre. Foundation Donor Units of $25,000, such as the one received from APRA/AMCOS, are being sought from corporations. |
| Anyone wishing to support the drive to create the Slim Dusty Centre — at whatever level — are also invited to make their tax-deductible donation to the Slim Dusty Foundation by calling 1800 18 SLIM (1800 18 7546) or by visiting the Centre’s website at www.slimdustycentre.com.au |
