Directors of the Slim Dusty Foundation are calling for business owners about the Macleay Valley to dig deep and contribute money to help build the Slim Dusty Centre.
By becoming a Foundation Donor a business owner can have the name of their business emblazoned on an honour roll at the Centre.
Foundation director Kempsey Shire Council Mayor, Janet Hayes, said many businesses in the Macleay Valley had already become donors.
“So many business people have come forward to be part of the project and it will mean so much to the people of the Macleay. It will be an ongoing legacy for Slim Dusty and his family.”
Paul O'Donnell, of Crescent Head, who is working on completing a promotional DVD for the project, said the DVD would help to promote the centre and show people everywhere what a great idea the centre would be. “We need everyone's support to get it going and it won't happen without their support,” he said. “The DVD is nearly finished, we are finalising the editing process.”

Foundation director, Steve Read, said it was pleasing to see local people get behind the centre. “Lots of businesses have made contributions,” he said. “Any business can make contributions in lots of $25,000. Contributions made in instalments in amounts to suit their budget.”

Akubra general manager Stephen Keir said his company was proud to be involved with the centre. “It will be good for Kempsey,” he said. “Slim was a great supporter of our product and we like to honour him and his family.”

McDonald's first assistant, Robert Baker, said his company was proud to be supportive of the Foundation. “It will be great for tourism and we look forward to ongoing support from the community.”

Roy Wilkinson, from Akubra, said he encouraged everyone to come down and have a look at the project. “To see the value this will have for Kempsey,” he said. “And it that respect we should get behind Slim Dusty Foundation and contribute what we can.”

Chairman of the Slim Dusty Foundation, Doug Thompson, said he was overwhelmed by local support for the centre. “And I feel it would be an Australian thing to support such an exciting development that will be good for Kempsey and Australia .”
