| The famous Kundabung Rodeo is back in town this October, promising more thrills than ever, with a huge program featuring top riders and entertainment for all. |
| This popular event draws well-known rodeo riders from all over Australia — attracted by plenty of action and hot competition for the Australasian titles. |
| To be held at Kundabung Stables on 2 October, the Rodeo has grown in size and popularity over the years, now attracting some 10,000 spectators. |
| The Slim Dusty Foundation is proud to be part of the action and is holding a huge raffle with tremendous prizes. |
First prize is Whipstick, a gloriously white 10-hands pony with a truly heart-warming story behind him: he is named after Slim’s first pony, one he got as a boy of 8 or 9. |
 |
^ First Prize - WHIPSTICK |
| Slim used to ride him to school — a welcome change from his previous transport; he used to catch the Mail Sulky to school! Slim’s pony Whipstick, was a creamy white - very similar to the Whipstick waiting for some lucky winner at the Kundabung Rodeo. |
| Joy McKean was thrilled to hear about Whipstick: |
‘I can't wait to see our new Whipstick, she said.
’Named after Slim’s first pony, this Whipstick will no doubt carry some young rider as safely as the original carried Slim to school and around the Nulla farm.
‘With Whipstick as first prize, the Kundabung Rodeo is going all out to support the building of the Slim Dusty Centre, and my family and I and all the team are so appreciative.’ |
|
|
| The winner of Whipstick will also receive two nights deluxe accommodation at the Rockpool Motor Inn plus a $50 voucher for the beautiful Rocks Restaurant and Cocktail Bar, with a continental breakfast to follow. |
| The runner-up prizes are also amazing: the second being a Deep Sea Fishing trip for two aboard Sea Urchin II at South West Rocks, and the third, an authentic Akubra hat. |
| Members of the Slim Dusty Family will be at the Rodeo to meet and greet Slim’s friends and fans and Slim’s son, Dr David Kirkpatrick will also be there to address the spectators and thank them for supporting the drive to build the Slim Dusty Centre. |
| The Foundation’s General Manager, Kathryn Yarnold, is also extremely appreciative: |
‘The ongoing success of the Kundabung Rodeo has had a long standing influence on Kempsey’s economy through so many different channels.
‘The Slim Dusty Foundation is proud to be associated with this mighty event, and we welcome the opportunity to unite with similar organisations for future fundraising activities.’
John Scott, organiser of the Kundabung Rodeo, is also extremely supportive of the Foundation’s work and was especially impressed with Whipstick:
‘He’s a lovely little white pony and Kundabung Rodeo is pleased to be involved with the Slim Dusty Centre project.
‘I would like to see others in the Macleay continue to get behind this project to help get things up and running for Kempsey.’ |
