| The museum was one of the priorities of the MVEDT while Miss Yarnold held her previous position and she believed that knowledge would play an important part in significant advances toward the eventual success of the project. |
| "One of the biggest expressions of local community support for the project comes from Kempsey Shire Council that has provided the office, some facilities and resources for the project manager," Miss Yarnold said. |

|
| According to Mayor Janet Hayes political awareness for project was strong. |
| She said there was written support from the Prime Minister John Howard and an active interest from the Minister for Small Business and Tourism, Sandra Nori. |
| "While there are sound indications of various support from others, I believe this project has considerable potential to gain crucial funds from the private sector. Dick Smith ... has a great interest in the project," Cr Hayes said. |

According to Miss Yarnold, the formation last year of the Macleay Valley Community Projects Ltd. (MVCP), a public company, was paramount to the success of the project.
To assist in providing funding the MVCP have proposed to organise a fundraising dinner at the Kempsey/Macleay RSL Club next month. |
| The man himself, Slim Dusty, said he was encouraged by the enthusiasm and commitment of the council, the projects committee and the general community for centre in his name. |
| "Joy and I look forward to the eventual opening of a venture that will showcase not just my music and my life but the role that Australian country music has played in the culture of the North Coast of NSW and Australia," Slim said. |
