Monday, March 21st, 2005
EMI Music Australia are proud to announce that the DVD release of the Slim Dusty tribute concert held in Tamworth on January 20 th , 2004 and featuring many of Australia's major country music artists … has now achieved a remarkable triple Platinum sales status!
This also now firmly establishes the ‘Concert For Slim' as the most successful Australian Artist Country Music DVD ever released in
Australia !

“EMI Music Australia has enjoyed a great relationship with Slim for over 60 years and is proud to be associated with him & his music” said EMI Music Australia Managing Director John O'Donnell. “This association continues and for EMI to be able to donate a substantial amount of money, from sales of the ‘Concert For Slim' DVD to the Slim Dusty Foundation is an honour”.

The Slim Dusty Foundation and EMI Music Australia would like to publicly acknowledge the huge contribution made by the Australian Country Music Industry towards the realisation and consequent success of the `Concert for Slim' fundraising projects.

The Slim Dusty Foundation will be holding a very special celebration event on the 23rd March, 2005 at 3.30 pm (until 5pm). The location will be in the Jubilee Room at NSW Parliament House in Macquarie St, Sydney.

The ‘Concert for Slim' organised by the Slim Dusty Foundation, with the generous support of the Australian Country Music Industry and EMI Music, to raise funds to aid in the establishment of the Slim Dusty Centre in Slim's hometown of Kempsey, NSW. All proceeds from the sale of this DVD and the original concert go directly towards the Slim Dusty Foundation.

The Slim Dusty Centre Project is an exciting and commendable initiative, which will be a fitting tribute to celebrate and commemorate Australian Icon and Country Music legend, Slim Dusty AO MBE, in his birthplace of Kempsey. The Centre will be a museum and cultural centre, depicting the life and achievements of Slim and the way in which his music has reflected the changing face of Australia . It will indeed be a journey through the heart and soul of Australia. In addition to the museum that will safely house the treasured memorabilia for the enjoyment and education of future generations, the Centre will also feature a gallery and conference facility, dining area, retail section and an outdoor concert facility that will accommodate up to 2000 people.

To quote Lee Kernaghan on the evening of the concert “It was a night for all of us to honour the King and send our love to the man who made Australian Country Music what it is today”….. And indeed it was.
