Site Inspection for Slim Dusty Centre
22nd November, 2005

Inspecting the new site for the proposed Slim Dusty Centre on Friday were representatives of the Department of Lands, Kempsey Shire Council and the Slim Dusty Foundation.

^ Left to Right, Graham Harding, General Manager Crown Lands NSW; Craig Barnes, Regional Manager North Coast; Charlie Micali, Senior Policy Officer, Ministerial Liaison and Foundation general manager Kathryn Yarnold.
Lands Director General, Warwick Watkins, said he and his colleagues were touring the Shire looking at a number of sites.

“And one of those is the new proposed site for the Slim Dusty Centre,” he said.

“We have given the Slim Dusty Foundation a licence to investigate this site to see if it will be suitable and once they have done their investigations, and if they prove successful, we will look at granting them a lease.”

The site covers 12 hectares of land on the Pacific Highway at South Kempsey.

Foundation General Manager, Kathryn Yarnold, said the decision to switch sites from Kempsey Showground was a financial one, saying it was not economical to build the centre at the Showground.

“Community feedback has been positive and there has been a huge amount of interest coming from across NSW and Victoria,” she said.

The site would provide high exposure for the Centre.
