‘GIVE ME ROOM’
The family of the late Slim Dusty recently made an important discovery when they found an unreleased recording by Slim called Give Me Room.
It’s a musical find that has even further strengthened the significance of an upcoming 80 song Slim Dusty trucking collection titled Sittin’ on 80.
Just prior to EMI finalising this new unique Australian trucking song collection, Slim’s wife Joy McKean contacted the company with the news that a never heard before musical treasure from Slim had been found. The unreleased recording, Give Me Room is classic Slim Dusty and will undoubtedly prove to be another major highlight in Slim’s quite extraordinary trucking song catalogue.
“Slim Dusty is one of the most important artists in the history of EMI Music Australia. He sits in the upper vanguard of artists alongside The Beatles, Sinatra and The Beach Boys as part of our incredible history - so a new track is a huge deal for us and his legions of fans.”
Mark Poston, Chairman EMI Music Australasia
It is understood the recording took place in Slim’s home studio (i.e Columbia Lane) sometime in 1997. Also involved in the recording were members of his legendary Travelling Country Band. The track has been completed and digitally mastered by Australia’s mastering guru Don Bartley especially for the upcoming CD collection Sittin’ on 80.
Give Me Room was written by one of Slim’s favourite songwriters John Dohling. John, an outback station hand and good mate of Slim’s passed away in November of last year...sadly, he never got to hear the final version of Slim’s recording of his fantastic trucking song.
