Australian Country Music History on the Internet - www.historyofcountrymusic.com.au
25th August, 2005
A new internet web site – www.historyofcountrymusic.com.au – has been launched by country music veteran Max Ellis.
After almost 40 years in the industry, Max has decided to create the site to put on record as much as possible about the birth and growth of Australian country music.

"It's important that we document this information while many of the original participants are still around," Max said. While he has written most of the initial material, Max hopes that in the future, many other people will contribute.

"In time I hope this site will offer material and comments from many different individuals about a wide range of historical aspects of country music in Australia," he said.

Having played a key role in the development of country music since his first involvement at 2TM in the late ‘60s when he was one of the group who created Country Music Capital, Max is uniquely qualified to set up and run the historical site.
Over the decades he has initiated or overseen such significant developments as the creation of the Golden Guitar Awards, the Tamworth Country Music Festival, Star Maker, Capital News, The Roll of Renown, Hands of Fame, the Country Music Association of Australia (CMAA) and, as Secretary/CEO of the CMAA for 10 years from it's inception, The Winners CD series, The Achiever Awards and Australian College of Country Music.
Max’s special interest in the history of Australian country music was aroused when, in 2000, he was responsible for researching and creating "Walk A Country Mile", the interpretive centre in Tamworth which tells the story of Australian country music.
Currently, www.historyofcountrymusic.com.au contains many different segments covering such subjects as The Story Of Country Music In Australia, How Tamworth Became Country Music Capital, Birth Of The Golden Guitars, stories about John Minson, the Roll Of Renown, Hands Of Fame, Maton Guitars, Star Maker, College of Country Music, How the CMAA Was Born, Sources & Resources and more.
There are several stories from Max's personal experiences including "Country Music Capital Meets Music City" recounting a visit to Nashville with John Minson in 1977, his own "Golden Guitar Memories" and his personal tributes to Slim Dusty and Smoky & Dot Dawson.
Also included is Max's commentary on the industry,"Stairway To Stardom" and "What Is country Music?" based on an article he wrote with John Minson for Capital News many years ago.
Many historic photos illustrate the copy.
www.historyofcountrymusic.com.au has been produced by Bob Kirchner in Tamworth and is a valuable resource for researchers or indeed anyone with an interest in Australian country music.
