THE SLIM DUSTY TRIBUTE CONCERT - 'CONCERT FOR SLIM'

Well there was nothing lonesome, morbid or drear at the Slim Dusty Benefit Concert in Tamworth last Tuesday for the 48 Kempsey residents that travelled over the mountains to help support the proposed Slim Dusty Centre.
Staff at the Kempsey Visitor Information Centre organised a coach trip to attend the special concert as a way to show support for the project from Slim's hometown.
Tourism manager Steve Read said they wanted to show everyone involved in the Slim Dusty Foundation that Kempsey supported and was grateful the centre was being built at Kempsey Showground.
"The Slim fans that travelled west for the show for the show ranged in age from 8 to 80 and thought the trip was fantastic value," he said.
The trip was made even more special when David Kirkpatrick, Slim's son, announced Kempsey as the home of the Slim Dusty Centre and all eyes turned to our 48 lovers of country music.
Mr Read said the Kempsey contingent erupted with loud cheers and the 5000-strong crowd clapped loudly as a sign of support.
The trip raised over $700, which will be added to the proceeds from the concert and donated the Slim Dusty Foundation for use in construction of the centre.
Mr Read said it was hoped the coach trip to the Country Music Festival in Tamworth would now become an annual event.
I congratulate all those who have come together to support this project, including the Slim Dusty Foundation, and in particular Slim's wife Joy, Australia's Holiday Coast Area Consultative Committee, the local community and the state government.
Through the Slim Dusty Centre, Slim's music will continue to touch the lives of many more Australians.
The Slim Dusty Tribute Concert raised over $100,000 for the Slim Dusty Foundation.
